Hard Knuckle Combat gloves – are they used for Hand to hand in places like Afghanistan?

I was wondering if this type of glove is designed for combat, and would the knuckle (part on the glove) Hurt more if you was to punch someone
so is this a bit like a Knuckle duster? and is it used in war zones today?
