Separatist revolt spells doom for Pak ambitions in Kashmir ?
Does Separatist revolt spell doom for Pak ambitions in Kashmir ?
To put it mildly ,the Kashmir Separatist lead Ali Shah Geelani> < ership today is in total disarray. Geelani brand of political adventurism driven by bras h ,unrealistic and callous mindset recklessly pursued and promoted by by the Pak ISI during the Stone Pelting spree of 2010 had done it. This time around the ISI gambled heavily by putting all eggs in Gellanis’ fundamentalist Pan Islamic basket to the complete exclusion of all other long time secessionist collaborators including the “moderate” Hurriyat (M) and its leader Mir Waiz Umar Farooq. Then it went on to make the fatal mistake of believing in its own propaganda just because it effectively impressedthe battery of “Kashmir experts” and the ultra liberal section of the Indian political class who in indecent hurry projected hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani as the” “undisputed leader” of the Kashmir Muslims and there fore the one with whom Indian state shall have to do business. .They had no time or inclination to observe the transparently vicious sadistic and brutal game plan of enticing, alluring and otherwise motivating innocent Kashmir youth to march to the security forces bunkers shouting and stoning creating an environment of intense violence which inevitably led to the use of force by the security forces under attack. Thus Kashmiri youth were used as sacrificial goats to serve Pakistan politipolitical interestscal interests .
The politically savvy and perceptive people of Kashmir , however were quick to see through the vicious game plan. Ironically, Syed Salah ud din , the Hizab supremo was the first to raise his voice against Geelanis’ misadventure. In response ,Geelani’s supporters burnt his effigy in Sopore. The ISI bosses wasted no time in asking the UJC chief to shut up . The Council’s Muzaffarabad based spokesman ,Syed Sadaqat Hussain was drafted to issue a statement on his behalf saying that “The ongoing movement is identified with Syed Ali Shah Geelani. For, the sacrifices offered by him are countless and everlasting…. To cast aspersions on him is but foolishness” . Now that the ISI has lost the gamble ‘Sallah ud din’ has again woken up. “Eighty five percent of people in Kashmir live hand to mouth. No nation can observe strikes forever and remain under curfew.. We had appealed to or friends on July 24 ( last year) to strategise the movement, but unfortunately they did not listen.” He was reported to have tod a local news agency.
By the end of August Geelanis’ misadventure had caused so much of misery and distress in the socio –economic life of the people that Shiekh Ghulam Hasan, the Jamaat –e-Islami Amir felt compelled to publically join issues. He pointed out that the prolonged strike had paralysed the normal life in valley and hit its economy hard . Those dependent on daily earnings to keep body and soul together were at the verge of starvation . The closure of educational institutions had deprived students , the future of Kashmir avenues of study ,upset their preparations for examinations and marred their future prospects
The frustration and anger against the insensitivity towards the plight of common man by Geelani and his PAK mentors was so over powering that in protest the shopkeepers indulged in counter stoning. The students of Gandherbal took out processions demanding opening of schools. Anti- agitation demonstration was held in Kokernag constituency represented by congress education minister Peerzada Mohd Sayed ..
. Write ups by prominent intellectuals appeared in the media highlighting the ugly turn the “struggle for Independence was taking , and the untold and avoidable miseries to which the people were being needlessly subjected. DR Wasim Ahmed wrote in Greater Kashmir(Feb,14, 2010) “We destroy hospital vehicles and prevent sick patients from reaching hospitals … What good will these destructive acts do to the souls of the slain people? Further, by stone-pelting do we expect the police and paramilitary forces to stop committing excesses and adopt a humane attitude towards us? Rather we actually are providing more fodder to their insatiable thirst for public massacres – more stone-pelting leading to more killings and hence a perpetual cycle of violence and killings “
The > Collapse> < open defiance and loss of support badly rattled the tin dictator . This was conclusively born out by , Geelani’s Oct 29 call: stressing intensification of the protest programmes during President Obamas’ visit to India “Those who show any laxity or violate the protest programmes in these days “he said ” will not only commit treason with the martyrs’ blood but also do an irreparable damage to the collective cause of nation” and threatened that . “the pro-freedom young generation will not tolerate such traitors and they will be dragged to the people’s court for adjudication ” Do not miss the tinge of helplessness and fear of disobedience .
The sham of the “Freedom Struggle” played out for the last about six decades certainly did not fool the people of Kashmir The vastitudes of history and the experiences of prolonged political struggle characterised by great commitment and sacrifices on the one hand and treachery on the other had imbued them with an uncanny almost telepathic power to smell such dirty tricks. But they thought it prudent to sway with the mood of times and let the secessionist leaders live in the world of make believe practicing the dictum _ “SAMAJJH TU HAR EK RAAZ KO MAGAR FARAIB KHAAY JA”..The latest heaping of avoidable hardship on the common man in a journey to nowhere , perhaps compelled him to stop no putting up with the charade . Even Hurriyat (M) and JKLF reduced to irrelevance during the Stone Pelting turmoil got the warning signals. The people were equally angered by Geelani’s adventurism as well as apathy on the part of so called moderates This appeared to have provoked Mir Waiz and Yasin Malik to come out of hibernation and show “some guts” and undertake tactical , exposure of few “secrets” as part of damage control exercise.? Take for instance Senior Hurriyat leader, Professor Abdul Gani Bhats’ call to the intellectuals on the need to speak truth. ”We should speak out who killed Abdul Ahad Wani, fathers of Mirwaiz Umar and Bilal Gani Lone”, he demanded in fact he like almost every one in Kashmir knew the identity of the assassin of Mirwaiz Farooq, and that both the assassin and the assassinated leader were buried in the same grave Yard ironically called Mazar Ul Shahuda . As regards Abdul Gani Lone , his son Sajjad Lone had publically named the foreign agency behind the crime on the date of his assassination Itself. Now brothers Sajjad and Bilal have regretted not have spoken out the truth then . Yasin Malik now goes public and declares that. “He ( Prof. Abdul Ahad Wani) demanded Independence for Kashmir and that is why he was killed.” What about murder Dr Guru’s and many others? He has given the reason but stopped short of naming those responsible for the heinous crime.,. But when Prof Bhat called the assain s_”Our boys. Our own people”, he left no one in doubt. .
The question is what exactly motivated the Hurriyat (M) till yesterday in cosy relationship with Pakistan establishment and the JKLF who despite ISI treachery maintained cool relations with the agency to go public on these “secrets” now? Have the realisation that Pakistan was using them as mere tools in furtherance of her agenda of territorial aggrandisement finally dawned upon them ? Do these initiatives and disclosures indicate a final breach with ISI and consequent quest for a new political strategy ? The rupture between the “Azadi Wallahs “and the PAK ISI and its adopted crusader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was pregnant with many and explosive possibilities given the recent history of decimation and even demolition of outfits like JKLF tactically cast in the vanguard of the “Freedom Struggle” in the phase beginning fag end of 1988 The coming into reckoning in public discourse of assassinations by or at the behest of ISI of Moulana Massodi ,Mir Waiz Moulvi Farooq, Dr Guru, Abdul Gani Lone, Prof. Wani and many others who straddled the intellectual and political space in the Kashmiri society and were perceived as valuable public assets could well signal the doom of Pakistan ambitions in Kashmir.
