What would happen if your hand was on the slide of a gun when it went off?
I have heard a lot of different opinions on this topic..In practical self defense systems like Krav Maga, Kempo etc…every time they talk about how important it is to get control of the weapon by grabbing the slide, not to prevent it from firing (it would only prevent the gun from reloading) but to get control to attack and take away…I am sure that the techniques have been tested by higher degrees of Black Belts but in all honesty what would happen to your hand worst case senario? Thank you
Your flesh would get torn worst case IF you grasped the slide only, and moved the weapon away from your body, if you failed…you’re shot. On a revolver placeing the web of your hand between the falling hammer and the weapons frame would prevent fireing…but I don’t reccomened either course of action. If at all possible avoiding violence is the best defence..if you have absolutely no choice then your life depends on your actions…my advice…either move out of the way of the weapon, or move the weapon or it’s user out of yours. Please don’t count on either…after 32 years of experience I can assure you that most often the gun wins. There are methods…but you won’t learn them here.
