IPM Presents: Triumph Carbon Fiber Tank Protector

Using Activated Charcoal to Get Rid of Air Pollution

Among the most common use of activated charcoal is getting rid of bad odors from the air in various places at home or any commercial and industrial setting. Known more as water purifier, the activated carbon come in many different forms viz. powdered, granular, beaded, extruded, impregnated, polymer coated, in cloths and fiber etc. Depending upon their application areas, you can select any of the variety to get the best results.

Among the various areas where activated charcoal is used for in air related applications are:

  • Vapor extraction/remediation
  • VOC abatement
  • Gas Mask
  • Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
  • Air stripper off-gas
  • Odor control
  • Catalyst support/protection
  • Tank venting

Of all these, the active charcoal is best used to do away with odors. The history of using activated charcoal as odor eliminators began with the production of air filters in gas masks during the Great Wars. These filters were used to minimize the effect of radioactive pollutants that emitted during the development of the first atomic bomb. Based on this principle today you would find their use just everywhere from vacuum cleaners to chemical labs. You would find activated charcoal in just every place, where you need to purify the air from poisonous vapors, foul odors and all kinds of repulsive smells.

They are also used as the best home remedy by many to eliminate bad odors. There are situations when activated charcoal has been used to reduce/eliminate odors in foam beds. Many manufacturers today have used carbon fiber while making blankets and mattress pads to eliminate the odors in an easy-to-use way. Nowadays, you can also get antibacterial impregnated carbon that not only protects from odors but also from bacteria and fungi.

As has been mentioned above activated charcoal goes a long way to control different types of odors. This includes some very personal odors from bad breath to smelly feet to gas, which can get very embarrassing at times. Then there are other odors in and around the house like those from musty refrigerators and gym bags to pet smells kitchen odors, and many more. There are different ways of using them at home. You can just put these activated carbon material into closed plastic bags, puncture a few holes in them and then place them near the source of smell or you can hang them decoratively around the home in colorful sachets. This ensures greater effectiveness. The best part about activated charcoals is that unlike other conventional odor control techniques they do not just cover up the smells, but actually eliminate them permanently.
